[19:18] <Takasi> Hey Brooklyn
[19:18] <.BrooklynKnight> KeithBaker: i've got it in the backround.
[19:18] <Stilgar> The will air it 2x tonight

[19:18] <.KeithBaker> You know, Takasi.
[19:18] <.BrooklynKnight> I'm at a loss.
[19:19] <JDigital> Wow, the world-famous Takasi!
[19:20] <.KeithBaker> See?
[19:20] <Stilgar> First Off I would like to say Thanks for a great Book. While I haven't read much of the book I do enjoy the
art. What inspired you folks to take the comic book art? i really enjoy how it sets the mood.
[19:20] * Takasi is scared and tells everyone to stop looking at him.
[19:20] * JDigital stares
[19:20] <otter> i have finally met you, o great tasaki
[19:20] <JDigital> How long until the chat starts?
[19:21] <.KeithBaker> Thanks, Stilgar! I don't think we're officially on yet though.
[19:21] <lp> 40 minutesish
[19:21] <otter> 39 minutes about
[19:21] <lp> yea props to keith, first wotc book ive bought in awhile
[19:21] <.KeithBaker> I'd want to let one of the boys at WotC answer the art question.
[19:21] <KCDinc> Does anybody have a convienient liston who would be best to ask of which question types?
[19:21] <Stilgar> Cool
[19:21] <.KeithBaker> Thanks, lp!
[19:21] <Stilgar> Ill write that down :)
[19:21] <JDigital> Actually, yeah, Eberron's the first D&D book I've bought in a while too. I usually just let the other members
of my D&D group buy books :)
[19:22] * Joins: xiaodave (~blahblahblah@*.as12.nwbl0.wi.core.com)
[19:22] <otter> i would buy it... but im a broke child with no income
[19:22] <otter> i play in it though and it is cool
[19:22] <.KeithBaker> Bill was the overall Man in Charge, so he's probably the person to direct the question to, Stilgar. Though
to give my 2 cents, it was one way of getting the pulpis tone across.
[19:22] <.BrooklynKnight> KCDinc: there is no list, simply ask the questions you'd like the answers too. I'll organize them
behind the scenes as I get them, and consolidate similar questions.
[19:23] <Stilgar> i saw the book in the store.. and did an impluse buy just for the art content.
[19:23] <JDigital> I have a load of money but no income. (guess I should start looking for a job, heh)
[19:23] <Takasi> Anyone know if the Dungeon 114 cover is Eberron related?
[19:23] <KCDinc> I guess I should point out Keiths latest answers pertaining to the artificer in his question thread, so they do
not get repeated
[19:23] <Takasi> It has the same look and feel
[19:23] <.KeithBaker> Yes, good idea, KCDinc.
[19:24] <.BrooklynKnight> I'm not gonna be referring to message boards actually.
[19:24] <.BrooklynKnight> I try to disconnect myself from them when it comes to live chats. Even if some things get repeated.
[19:24] * Quits: GreenTea (~Kmart_Secu@*.direcpc.com) (User has been mind-ripped)
[19:24] <KCDinc> Well you should be aware at least of those recent answeres
[19:24] <.BrooklynKnight> There have been 3 weeks of ongoing Q&A, lots of stuff is bound to be repeated
[19:24] <KCDinc> I have a feeling more then one person will ask about the artificer sroll type
[19:25] <JDigital> Half an hour or so to go so I'll watch Fullmetal Alchemist first.
[19:25] <.BrooklynKnight> Thats fine, and i'll post the question once. At which point i'll tell them that it was asked earlier
and to refer to logs later on.
[19:25] <.KeithBaker> We can answer it quickly enough... "arcane or divine! You decide!" That way Chris can give the official
answer about whether wizards can copy artificer scrolls.

[19:27] * Quits: JDigital (~JDigital@*.elk.dialup.pol.co.uk) (User has been mind-ripped)

[19:27] <.KeithBaker> I don't know, Takasi, I always get stuck in that maze of twisty little passages.
[19:27] <Stilgar> do you have a set of masterwork lock picks? :)
[19:27] <.KeithBaker> What can I say, they're all alike.
[19:28] * .BrooklynKnight wonders if thats an inside joke cause he's not aware of any eberron cdrom
[19:28] * Takasi pushes the buzzer
[19:28] <Stilgar> I hope to see an eberron pc game
[19:28] <.NiTessine> Stilgar, you will. Two.
[19:28] <Takasi> The correct answer is "What the hell are you talking about?"
[19:28] <Stilgar> !!!!!!!
[19:28] <Stilgar> dnd RTS
[19:28] <Neko_Ali> well, we're getting an Eberron RTS game.
[19:28] * Takasi takes two points off in the Simpsons trivia category
[19:29] <.NiTessine> Yes. And the MMORPG.
[19:29] <KCDinc> wonder if anyone here is involved with the open call
[19:29] <Stilgar> no way!!!!
[19:29] <Stilgar> ugh.. mmorpg
[19:29] <@ChrisPerkins> Takasi: I don't believe the Dungeon 114 cover is Eberron related. It's a Wayne Reynolds cover, though,
so it will kick ass.
[19:29] <Neko_Ali> Normally I hate real time strategy with a passion... but if I get to command little units of warforged, I'm
happy :)
[19:29] <Stilgar> I think World of Warcraft will have my money :)
[19:29] <Takasi> There IS an Eberron adventure slated for 114 though, I hope...
[19:30] <@ChrisPerkins> Yes, I believe so.
[19:30] <Takasi> There'd better be!
[19:30] <Takasi> :D
[19:30] <@ChrisPerkins> There was a short one in Issue #113 titled "The Queen with Burning Eyes."
[19:30] <Neko_Ali> which was pretty decent. If a straight up dungeon crawl mostly :)
[19:30] <Stilgar> I liked teh map that came with issue 113
[19:30] <.KeithBaker> Hmm, does that make the #114 one of mine?
[19:31] <@ChrisPerkins> That's what I'm thinking, but don't hold me to that ... ;)
[19:31] * .KeithBaker grins.
[19:31] <dood> i'd like to see more modules that aren't dungeon crawls
[19:31] <dood> unfortunately, that seems to be the easiest, and thus the most common
[19:32] <dood> easiest to create
[19:32] <.KeithBaker> I wrote an Eberron adventure you'll see in some issue of Dungeon (maybe 114) that's less of a straight
dungeon crawl, Dood.
[19:32] <.BrooklynKnight> d00d, not dood. :-D
[19:32] <Takasi> What's a good name for a labyrinth?
[19:32] <@ChrisPerkins> More of a murder mystery, actually.
[19:32] <.KeithBaker> So hang in there. :)

[19:33] <.BrooklynKnight> my mistake!
[19:34] <Takasi> some work for the central gladiator arena
[19:34] <Takasi> btw, anyone know a good name for the arena?
[19:34] <.KeithBaker> That was one of the things I liked with the Deathnet mingame.
[19:34] <Stilgar> Deathnet mingame?
[19:34] <Malakor> Mr. Baker, before the offical q&a starts, just want to say, congratulations on Eberron and having looked
through the copy I bought last week, I look forward to running adventures in it.
[19:35] <Takasi> most of the minotaurs work on labyrinths
[19:35] <Takasi> they build them to protect the Dhakaani ruins underneath the Great Crag
[19:35] <Stilgar> I wonder how sales are going with Eberron.
[19:35] <Takasi> and to test the might of the city's warriors
[19:35] <Galen44> I'll second Malakor's praises on Eberron. It has me completely excited about D&D again. I can't get enough.
[19:36] <Takasi> and they're the most honorable form of execution in Droaam law
[19:36] <Takasi> but what's a good name for a huge network of labyrinths?

[19:42] <Primus> no problem, Keith
[19:43] <Galen44> It's amazing to me how much work people put into providing more information about this campaign setting for
free! Providing us great sites like those mentioned above. And of course Keith laboring tirelessly (for free!) on the WotC and

[19:44] <Primus> alrighty
[19:44] <Takasi> One thing I caught from Death at Whitehearth (don't worry, not a spoiler really) is how each human house has
different racial traits
[19:44] <Stilgar> being active with the community was another reason I picked up eberron
[19:44] <.BrooklynKnight> I'll start taking questions now, via private message, they will be added to a que.
[19:44] <wormwood> Well, if the first 10 years of Forgotten Realms taught me anything---it's that an active, creative fanbase
can really help drive a setting.
[19:44] <Garen> Hello, all.
[19:45] <.BrooklynKnight> The topics are the ECS and Shadows of the Last War Adventure.
[19:45] * Quits: @Sarlax (Sarlax@209.63.66.*) (Quit: Buy Eberron.)
[19:45] <Takasi> I must have missed this in the ECSB, but it makes perfect sense and I don't know why I didn't think of this
[19:45] <.KeithBaker> That's not a requirement, Takasi. Some traits are more common than others, but it's not like everyone from
Cannith has to have red hair.
[19:45] <Garen> Wow, everyone is early.
[19:46] <Primus> I have a question for everybody... where is the Mournland's lack of operational Healing found? I read about it
in the WotC forumbut never noticed it in the ECS
[19:46] <.KeithBaker> Pull 15000 people from the same family and you'll find some with similarities, but you'll also have a lot
of diversity.
[19:46] <wormwood> Yeah, but it's cool to be able to spot a Harknnen from a crtoss a crowded dance floor (for example)
[19:46] <.BrooklynKnight> Primus: that should wait for the chat in 15 minutes.
[19:46] <Primus> really> Its just a rules question?
[19:46] <Primus> Its not like I'm asking about the designers' intentions?
[19:46] <.BrooklynKnight> If you have questions, I'm accepting them now via private message.
[19:46] <.KeithBaker> Agreed, Wormwood. And I like the idea that there are common family traits. I'm sure it will be expanded on
in the future. But we're not going to say you can't have red hair if you want it.
[19:48] <.BrooklynKnight> wow, not many, i've gotten 3 so far.
[19:49] <Galen44> I love the story on The Chronicle about Bonal Geldem that ties into The Forgotten Forge! Anyone else see that?
[19:49] <Primus> I ran my players through that
[19:49] <Primus> They died
[19:49] <Malakor> er, how do you PM?

[19:50] <.BrooklynKnight> thank you garen.

[19:50] <wormwood> LOL. I TPKed on the Forgotten Forge l;ast night. Thanks, Horrid Rats.
[19:50] <Primus> The game is for 4 people... it was supposed to be a one shot... and there were only two of them which I did not
scale
[19:50] <Primus> The Horrid Rats seem a bit too powerful for CR 1, but that's just me
[19:50] <.KeithBaker> Yes, the horrid rats are pretty nasty...
[19:51] <wormwood> They ate a Warfogred like he was made of cookie batter. ;-)
[19:51] <.NiTessine> Psst... I'm running the Forgotten Forge to my group, a great part of which is here... Don't spoil it.
[19:51] <.KeithBaker> Yeah, 2 people vs 2 horrid rats? Not a pretty sight.
[19:51] <@ChrisPerkins> Warforged have that chewy middle.
[19:51] <Primus> I fed one level 1 halfling to the rats and the other got stabbed by the gobbo he manhandled...
[19:51] <.KeithBaker> OK, NT.
[19:51] <Garen> W00t! Cream filling...
[19:51] <.KeithBaker> Forget everything I said about the hidden Rod of Lordly Might.
[19:51] <Primus> Actually, it was one character vs. horrid rats the other one was already disabled from the... OTHER danger in
that chamber
[19:51] <Galen44> My group barely survived the Forge.
[19:52] <Neko_Ali> hah! I took out that warforged and the two shifters myself last week! I fear not!
[19:52] <Primus> Their second run allowed them to survive... I made them both level 2
[19:52] <wormwood> I was surprised to find the Shard of Vecna...but I guess Keith knows what he's doing ;-)
[19:52] <Neko_Ali> for I have Warforged Soulknife anime-style goodness on my side!
[19:52] <Primus> Dude, I could NOT believe when the Lady of Pain flayed Geldem...
[19:52] <wormwood> LOL
[19:52] <Galen44> Yeah, and putting first level PCs up against a Daelkyr? yeesh...
[19:52] <.NiTessine> Yeah, and then you proceeded to go on a most idiotic wild goose chase...
[19:52] <.KeithBaker> My prediction? The Lady of Pain.

rusted portcullis, these guys start lifting the portcullis, expending an action point in the process, and then wander down it
for fifteen minutes...
[19:55] * Primus was joking

[19:56] <Garen> Hey, Garen!
[19:56] <.NiTessine> Yeah, but so did everyone else, so it's okay.
[19:56] <Garen> :/
[19:56] <Primus> dammit, I need to make a character for Ni's game still... I've had a hosue guest and been distracted
[19:56] * Nightfall wants to point out I didn't plan on going through the Porticullus
[19:56] * Primus has the book however
[19:56] <Vaxalon> NiT: I should add that my character was against going through the portcullis.
[19:56] <Neko_Ali> hey, we were looking for something hidden and unfound for a long time. Why would we figure it was the easy
way if there was a harder way to be had?
[19:56] <@Bill_Slavicsek> We got Keith for the novels!
[19:56] <Garen> Bah! What does Keith know about Eberron?
[19:56] <.NiTessine> Well, one would suppose you'd check out the easy way first.

[19:57] <Neko_Ali> but NiT... we're /gamers/ we don't do things the easy way.
[19:57] * Primus proclaims himself Eberron Scholar, kicks so-called "designers" to the sidelines
[19:57] <Galen44> Ok, going home and back to being Galen_Michael,,,

[19:57] <Neko_Ali> mostly because we've gotten use to the 'easy way' of being trapped 9 ways from sunday.
[19:57] <Nightfall> That too.
[19:57] * Joins: Staffan (~sjosv99@*.telia.com)
[19:57] <.KeithBaker> No, Stilgar... this would be my first published fiction, aside from Death at Whitehearth.
[19:57] <@Johnny> howdy, folks! Has the Qing and Aing begun?
[19:58] <Stilgar> minutes away..
[19:58] <Neko_Ali> Nightfall: and seems to have strange designs on my genderless Warforged...
[19:58] <Staffan> Hejsan, folks!
[19:58] <.KeithBaker> Is this THE Johnny?
[19:58] <@Johnny> I enjoyed Death at Whitehearth!
[19:58] <@Johnny> Yes!
[19:58] <@Johnny> Hi, Keith!
[19:58] <Primus> Qing and Aing.... sounds like a new energon
[19:58] <.KeithBaker> Welcome! And congratulations!

[19:58] <blueslime> Who is this chat with, I read the topic, but what are thier job when it comes to this setting ?
[19:58] <.NiTessine> Hello, Johnny.
[19:58] <Hairy_Spotted> they MADE it, blueslime
[19:58] <wormwood> I read Death at Whitehearth aloud to a group of grown men last night, and they applauded at the end. Then,
naturalkly, I killed all their characters, but that's another story.
[19:58] <Primus> The chat is with me
[19:58] <Nightfall> Keith, just so you know, I got this lame job just so I could get Eberron. ;)
[19:58] <@Johnny> Hi, NiTessine
[19:59] <Stilgar> good question blueslime
[19:59] <.KeithBaker> And I'm glad to hear you liked Death at Whitehearth. It is something of a prequel to my first novel.
[19:59] <Primus> The others are unimportant
[19:59] <.KeithBaker> Thanks, Nightfall.
[19:59] <Nightfall> Oh and Giants of Legend too. ;)
[19:59] <Garen> Let's see... Chris collated the pages, Bill stapled them, and Keith underlined the title.
[19:59] <Nightfall> Np.
[19:59] <Vaxalon> LOL Garen
[19:59] <Staffan> Oooh! Actual WOTC designers! Feels like it's 2000 again...
[19:59] <@Johnny> Will the party featured in Death at Whitehearth play a role in your novel?
[19:59] <blueslime> well that is generally uninteresting
[19:59] <blueslime> serious reply pleas
[19:59] <.KeithBaker> Yes, Johhny.

[20:06] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Chris, you want to take this?
[20:06] <@ChrisPerkins> Our website will feature a lunar calendar that you can use to chart the phases of the moons. Expect to
see that very shortly.
[20:06] <@ChrisPerkins> It will also keep track of when the outer planes are coterminous. It's really nifty.

[20:09] <.BrooklynKnight> <Neko_Ali> Can we get a brief description of the Lightning Rail coaches and engine? Are they multi
level affairs, or more like real life trains? do they normally contain things like dining cars and sleeper berths?
[20:09] <.KeithBaker> Who wants to take it?
[20:09] <@Bill_Slavicsek> You'll get to see some of that in the next adventure, Whispers of the Vampire's Blade ...
[20:10] <@Bill_Slavicsek> ... but they serve the same basic function as trains in the Old West./done
[20:10] <@ChrisPerkins> I envision some lightning rail coaches being more "ornate" than others. You can expect to see detailed

[20:13] <.KeithBaker> The kalashtar do not possess the full consciousness of the quori spirit. The memories come to them more
like dreams.
[20:13] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (I was going to say that.)
[20:13] <.KeithBaker> So they have vague memories of Dal Quor, but it's not exactly *them*. /done

[20:21] <.BrooklynKnight> sorry, felt left out!
[20:21] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Next question?
[20:21] <.BrooklynKnight> <KCDinc> Its never specifically stated in the ECS but seems implied that there are only certain
recognized royal lines. That is only certain names can be ir'whatever, is this true or can one simply make up a royal line?
[20:22] <.KeithBaker> Bill, you want this one?
[20:22] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Certainly, DMs and players (with DM permission) can make up new names ...
[20:23] <@Bill_Slavicsek> ... but in the world, the recognized royal families can bestow titles for appropriate services./done

[20:23] <.BrooklynKnight> <Takasi> Would a "Charm Warforged" spell that only targets warforged be appropriate for the setting?
What spell level do you recommend? Any chance of seeing this in the future? (Please?)
[20:24] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Chris or Keith?
[20:24] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (Based on a discussion we had earlier.)/done
[20:24] <@ChrisPerkins> The game already has charm monster, which affects warforged.
[20:24] <@ChrisPerkins> I don't think you need a spell that specifically targets any one kind of creature./done
[20:25] <.BrooklynKnight> <KCDinc> The dragonshard items intended for enhancing dragonmarks seem a bit pricy in some cases when
a house might want to have a mass of said item. Is this meant to say that those items are not too common or that the houses
can either foot the bill or have means of discount?
[20:26] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Keith, want this one?
[20:26] <.KeithBaker> Sure.
[20:26] <.KeithBaker> There are a few factors here (and I'm sure Bill will step in if I'm wrong).
[20:27] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (Sure)
[20:27] <.KeithBaker> First, old magic items never die. SO you have a high initial investment, but it then becomes an heirloom
of the house.
[20:27] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (But Keith is never wrong)
[20:27] <.KeithBaker> Second, it's something you use specifically to make money.
[20:28] * Quits: Jared (Jared@*.cli.wi.charter.com) (Quit: Leaving)

[20:32] <.BrooklynKnight> <KCDinc> Concerning the Thronehold accord, is there any act that might threaten to null and void it?
Say one country brutally invading another, thus ending the peace.
[20:33] <.KeithBaker> That usually does bust a peace treaty.
[20:33] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Lots of things could end the fragile peace./done
[20:33] <@ChrisPerkins> Certainly that would be true in the case of one country invading another./done
[20:33] <.KeithBaker> Indeed, a treaty is only as good as the promises of the people involved. /done
[20:33] <.BrooklynKnight> <wormwood> Does Eberron support the trraditional 'dragon in a lair with a hoard", or are all dragons

[20:34] <@Bill_Slavicsek> ... and not every dragon gives a hoot about the prophecy./done
[20:34] <.KeithBaker> Rhashaak in Q'barra is a dragon in a lair with a hoard.

[20:41] <.BrooklynKnight> Its all related
[20:41] <.KeithBaker> Indeed... I don't know what you all want to reveal at this time, so I'm leaving it to you two.
[20:42] <@Bill_Slavicsek> The 13th moon probably disappeared when the mark went away (see the timeline) ...

[20:46] <@ChrisPerkins> There might be physical commonalities among members of an immediate family, but those would be less
evident as you drifted through the gene pool. I think the differences could be quite radical. /done
[20:47] <@ChrisPerkins> Even in my immediate family, we have four people (mother, father, sister, brother) with four different
eye colors./done
[20:47] <@Bill_Slavicsek> We'd rather get into cultural differences (and we will in an upcoming product) than physical
differences/done
[20:47] <.KeithBaker> In my view, you have a few traits that people see as common to a house, but like Chris said, there's
nothing that links everyone together.
[20:47] <.KeithBaker> THey are *huge* families.
[20:48] <.KeithBaker> And I agree with Bill. /done.
[20:48] <.KeithBaker> One more note, actually...
[20:48] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (You said done)
[20:49] <.BrooklynKnight> In regards to how big each family is, can we get some kind of "number" for how many people are
actually in each family. Immediate and extended?
[20:49] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (Keith, I was kidding. Make your note)
[20:49] <.KeithBaker> This is relevant because of the comment made about Lei's hair in Death at Whitehearth. The point there was

[20:50] <.BrooklynKnight> hi Keiths Wife..!
[20:50] <.KeithBaker> With 1 in 100 people having family ties...
[20:50] <@Honeycakes> Please call me Ellen! :)
[20:50] <.KeithBaker> You're dealing with around 15,000 people per family.
[20:50] <.BrooklynKnight> Thanks, i forgot what it was!
[20:50] <.KeithBaker> though Thuranni is presumably smaller. /done
[20:50] <.BrooklynKnight> KeithBaker: and thats blood related right?
[20:51] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Plus their retainers and hired hands/done
[20:51] <.KeithBaker> Yes.
[20:51] <.BrooklynKnight> ok, moving on!
[20:51] <.BrooklynKnight> <Galen_Michael> Have any of you read James Wyatt's adventure in Dungeon 113? If so, what suggestions
might you offer for including more roleplaying scenes? It seems like a pretty straight-forward dungeon crawl...
[20:51] <@Bill_Slavicsek> I have only briefly looked at it, so I can't give a solid answer here/done
[20:51] <.KeithBaker> I've read it, but I don't have it memorized...
[20:52] <@ChrisPerkins> The dragonmarked houses are probably deserving of more attention in a future product./done

[20:52] <.KeithBaker> ... have them go shopping!
[20:53] <@ChrisPerkins> ... the Adventure Hooks section provides some suggested ties to "The Forgotten Forge" adventure in the
ECS. Also, it would be cool if you could find a way to introduce the character of Vestan early in your campaign./done
[20:53] <.KeithBaker> Throw in an encounter with a Tharashk inquisitive looking for information -- that becomes relevant in the
next adventure you have planned.
[20:53] <@ChrisPerkins> Or maybe some other members of his family./done
[20:53] <.KeithBaker> All from me at the moment. /done
[20:53] <.BrooklynKnight> <Nightfall> How much of the Great Wheel stuff (such as Archfiends and Paragon Celestials) can you
apply to present Eberron Cosmology? Examples?
[20:54] <@ChrisPerkins> Related to previous question: Maybe one of the heroes is also receiving strange dreams of the Queen with
Burning Eyes. /done
[20:54] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (Where's James when I want him to handle an answer?)
[20:54] <.KeithBaker> I personally dislike using archdevils and other beings that have a tie to earthly religion.
[20:55] <@Bill_Slavicsek> (Oh good, Keith wants this one.)
[20:55] * Joins: ascendance (~ascendance@*.sympatico.ca)
[20:55] <.KeithBaker> So to me...
[20:55] <.KeithBaker> it's mainly a question of whether you can find a place for a particular aspect in Eberron.
[20:56] <.KeithBaker> If you want to use an archfiend, fine -- but you'll need to decide where it belongs. The planes weren't
designed with them in mind. /done
[20:56] <@ChrisPerkins> Eberron's orrery cosmology tries to be inclusive, so I can imagine Demogorgon occupying a stronghold
somewhere on Shavarath or some other unpleasant plane. This might be a topic worth approaching in a product that talks about
the planes in greater detail./done
[20:56] <.KeithBaker> True, Chris. /done
[20:57] <.BrooklynKnight> <Takasi> Which one of Daine's companions died?
[20:57] <@Bill_Slavicsek> One could always be trapped in Khyber from the time of the Age of Demons/done
[20:57] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Keith?
[20:57] <.KeithBaker> You'll have to find out in the future! Or guess... you've got a one in three shot.
[20:58] <.KeithBaker> Death at Whitehearth bookends my novels that will be coming out.
[20:58] <.BrooklynKnight> dont you mean bookstart?
[20:58] <.KeithBaker> And back to what Bill said, yes, you could use such a thing as one of the old demons.
[20:58] <.KeithBaker> No -- the main action is a prequel...
[20:58] <.BrooklynKnight> oh, oops.
[20:59] <.KeithBaker> the begining and end (returning to Whitehearth) take place afterwards. /Done
[20:59] <.BrooklynKnight> <KCDinc> Ok probably last question from me. Regarding Eberron novels: I know many playes and DMs that
do not like the Forgotten Realms because of the rather strong impact the novels have on the setting. How will eberron novels
be different in more then just setting/style? Will they not focus so much on such broad events and more on those that might
never affect player and DM? Also are any of you (the designers) involved with the open call? If so any comments/suggestions?

[21:00] <.BrooklynKnight> Also are any of you (the designers) involved with the open call? If so any comments/suggestions?
[21:00] <@Bill_Slavicsek> ... and I think we're both in agreement that we don't want world-shattering events in Eberron ...
[21:00] <@Bill_Slavicsek> ... unless they are planned and coordinated between the departments.
[21:00] <.KeithBaker> My goals in writing Eberron novels are to focus more on the tone of the setting and actions that players
themselves could have. Indiana Jones & the Maltese Falcon are great stories that don't change the world. /done
[21:01] <.BrooklynKnight> <NiTessine> While inbreeding between European monarchs resulted in a strange blood disease and a
number of drooling lunatics, how would the dragonmarks react to such? Also, does it happen?
[21:01] <.KeithBaker> Aberrant Marks.
[21:01] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Some of us designers would love to work on novels as time and opportunity present themselves/done
[21:01] <.KeithBaker> Bear in mind that dragonmark houses do bring talented outsiders into the house...
[21:01] <.KeithBaker> So there is an infusion of fresh blood./done

[21:18] <.BrooklynKnight> here comes the next question
[21:18] <.BrooklynKnight> <JDigital> In an Eberron game, what suggestions might you have to discourage the "killing monsters
for XP" and "we have to do it ourselves or else we won't get any XP" mentality that standard D&D games sometimes have?
[21:18] <.KeithBaker> Story awards & conditional XP modifiers.
[21:19] <.KeithBaker> Especially in a mystery game, story awards are very important.
[21:19] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Yup. I love story awards, when appropriate./done
[21:19] <.KeithBaker> done
[21:19] <.BrooklynKnight> <Staffan> Are you planning an Inspired/Quori sourcebook any time soon (say, '05 or '06), or are you
steering clear of that on account of the heavy psionics content such a book would have?
[21:19] <@Bill_Slavicsek> Chris?
[21:20] <@ChrisPerkins> We're not afraid to include psionics content in our books, so you can probably expect to see something
on the Inspired and their homeland in the future./done
[21:20] <@Bill_Slavicsek> I've got to get going, but I'd like to say ...

[21:22] <.KeithBaker> I can hang around a bit longer. /done
[21:23] <.BrooklynKnight> <Wormwood> Since the professions of the various Dragonmarked houses don't really overlap, is there a
rivalry between them?
[21:23] <.BrooklynKnight> (i sent you the message bill, it should be in a seprate window)
[21:23] <.KeithBaker> Don't tell Thuranni and Phiarlan.
[21:24] <.KeithBaker> And Deneith and Tharashk are begining to get into mercenary services conflicts, due to Tharashk's contacts
in Droaam.
[21:24] <.KeithBaker> Some houses -- Kundarak and Sivis, for example, have very strong alliances.
[21:24] <.KeithBaker> Others have rivalries for any number of reasons, going down to pure personal ego.
[21:25] <.KeithBaker> I'm sure it will be explored in more detail in the future.
[21:25] <.KeithBaker> done
[21:25] <.BrooklynKnight> <Hairy_Spotted> How long will mr. Baker be writing Dragonshards articles? Are they supposed to become

[21:27] <.NiTessine> Bye, Chris.
[21:27] <.BrooklynKnight> Actually its one Bill would have to answer..but here goes..
[21:27] <.BrooklynKnight> <Vaxalon> Given that you have scores of cool product ideas, any chance of some freelance writers

[21:27] <.BrooklynKnight> <GreenTea> how common are drow in the phiarlan house?
[21:28] <@ChrisPerkins> Yes. If you're interested in freelancing for WotC, drop me a line at christopher.perkins@wizards.com.
Please include a list of published credits, if any. /done
[21:28] <.KeithBaker> Not at all.
[21:28] <.BrooklynKnight> Does that include To be Published works as well, or only stuff immediatly available?
[21:28] <.KeithBaker> The drow are virtually unknown on Khorvaire.
[21:29] <@ChrisPerkins> Both. In the case of "To be Published" works, please note the name of the publisher./done
[21:29] <.KeithBaker> Sages who have studied Xen'drik would recognize them, but that's about it. But, the idea of Phiarlan or
THuranni seeking drown and recruiting them is an interesting one if you wanted to explore it.
[21:30] <.KeithBaker> done
[21:30] <.BrooklynKnight> Alright folks. Chris needs to leave. And i'm sure Keith wants to get back to work writing Dragonshards
and spending time with Ellen. I'll post one more question, and the remainder i'll post at Enworld for Keith to get us answers
for at his leasure.
[21:30] <.BrooklynKnight> And of course, my spelling is terrible.
[21:30] <.BrooklynKnight> <ascendance> Where would you put ninjas in Eberron?
[21:30] <.BrooklynKnight> <ascendance> Ok... BTW, while we're at it... where would you put in the rest of the Oriental
Adventures stuff?
[21:31] * Quits: @ChrisPerkins (~clrapg@*.wizards.com) (Quit: Quit)
[21:31] <.KeithBaker> Well, that's a nice, simple question. :)
[21:31] <.KeithBaker> First off, as Bill said, there is no one place in Eberron that is a direct analogue for oriental culture.
[21:32] <.KeithBaker> There is a thread on the wotc/eberron/general board -- "Need Samurai BAD" -- where I discussed Samurai.
[21:32] <.KeithBaker> Some quick general suggestions:
[21:33] <.KeithBaker> The Dhakaani hobgoblins had an empire focussed more on martial discipline and skill than on the use of
magic. The Sharaat'Khesh goblins of that tradition are currently refered to as monk/rogues, but could be ninja.
[21:33] <.KeithBaker> Samurai could also come from that culture.
[21:34] <.KeithBaker> In Riedra, the Inspired are also building a military culture with less of a focus on magic -- and both
Riedra and Adar place a great focus on mental discipline.
[21:35] <.KeithBaker> Finally, the Valenar elves might have a wide variety of traditions dating back to Xen'drik; different
bands within the Valenar might follow entirely different military styles.
[21:35] <.KeithBaker> As for Oriental magic...
[21:36] <.KeithBaker> ... I'm not really familiar enough with it to say. I know there's a strong elemental aspect, which might
make it interesting to tie to the gnomes (who are the experts at elemental binding)
[21:36] <.KeithBaker> Or you could work it back to Dhakaan again, if you wanted.
[21:37] <.KeithBaker> -- giving you samurai in the Kech Sharaat and shugenja in the Kech Volarr.
[21:37] <.KeithBaker> (Now you just have to come up with a story for your human or demihuman being raised by hobgoblins).
[21:37] <.KeithBaker> So, that's a start, at least.
[21:37] <.KeithBaker> (done)
[21:37] <.BrooklynKnight> Keith.
[21:37] <.BrooklynKnight> I would like to thank you very much for coming today.
