Technology:
Humans in Earth: Final
Conflict operate at early TL8. Technology up to TL14 is generally
available to the Taelons, with exceptions noted below.
Human Technology
Human scientists often work
in concert with Taelons, allowing many exceptions to these guidelines.
Examples of this include the human scientists working with Skrill engineering
and genetic manipulation.
Space travel technology is
equivalent to early TL8, but has gone mostly unused since the Taelon arrival.
TL8 automatic weapons and
TL7 guns are used commonly in military, criminal and police operations.
At GM discretion, gyrocs and even early laser weapons may be available
to the upper echelons of the human military. Needlers and electromagnetic
weapons do not exist. The Companions also provide blaster-style energy
weapons (electron pistols?) to their high-level non-implant agents.
TL7 bulletproof armor is generally
available. Government or military officials may acquire monocrys
armor, and Combat Infantry Dress is used by Companion Security SWAT teams
and elite military units.
Medical technology is generally
standard TL8. Cloning is possible, but legal only for research purposes;
brain transplants are unavailable. Bionics are available, but must
be obviously mechanical in appearance (this does not reduce cost).
Companion Technology
The only exception to the
Taelon TL is their use of dimensional transport, which can be treated in
the same way as TL16 teleportation.
Travel:
Travel for Taelons and humans
considered important to the Companions is simple, fast and without risk.
Taelon shuttles move at speeds that can traverse any terrestrial distance
instantly.
Fixed-link teleporting is
becoming increasingly available for human civilians. Costs are comparable
to air travel and travel time is, again, instantaneous. There is,
however, the risk of being abducted or tagged by the Taelons. These
savings will also lower airline rates, so travel by plane will be cheaper.
Social Issues/Finance:
Financially, Companion employees
tend to be paid quite well, probably in the area of $300,000 a year.
As to starvation and homelessness, it has largely been dealt with; anyone
needing charity from private or government sources will find it easily
and without hassle.
The issue of Companion worship
has been raised in the show, and it is up to the GM whether this cult has
failed or thrived since the days of Julie Payton.
