Happy Fun World, where we care more about good content than fancy graphics.Learn all about that mystery man they call Johnny O'Neal.

Welcome to Happy Fun World, a place of simple joy and guiltless pleasure!  Welcome to Happy Fun World, an imaginary land where nobody's ever sad and everyone is pleasant!  Welcome to Happy Fun World, a website that really tries hard to be more than a generic personal homepage!  Here at Happy Fun World, you can do twenty thousand million neato things.  Do you know what "fnord" means?  Then head on over to the conspiracy page!  Tired of search engines and indices that tell you where to go on the Web?  The Vortex of Links can really tell you what's worth seeing.  Or maybe you just want some simple wisdom.  In that case, read my almost-articulate rambling essays on various interesting topics.

Who needs a social life or friends?  You're here at Happy Fun World, a site that's absolutely guaranteed to keep you busy for at least several minutes.  And now that we've escaped the tyranny of Geocities, things will be much more pleasant for you viewers out there.  You see, Geocities has lately been "accidentally" deleting pages, adding pop-up advertisements, sticking their name in the lower-right-hand corner of every page, and selling subscribers' names to mailing lists.  I understand that's what I get for joining a free homepage service, but it's nice to be out of there.  The wonderful people at coveworld have provided me with space for my page, so all is now good.

Enjoy this page, and all the wonderful things it has to offer.  I know this site is very old, and I apologize for not updating it in over a year, but an completely new design is coming soon.  It will be much more than an update.  The new Happy Fun World will retain the name and its most popular content, but will add new graphics, layout, media, and regular updates.  It will also have lots of pictures.  While you're waiting for the new Happy Fun World to arrive, you can browse through some of the pictures that will be featured on the site.

You're the reason Happy Fun World exists, so we hope you like it.  If any of you have questions or comments, just email me.

the vortex of links

Many people dream about the Internet as some sort of massive democratic utopian forum for the exchange of ideas where anyone can voice their message to the world by setting up a homepage and scanning pictures of their friends. Other people condemn the web as a cesspool for hackers and freaks downloading warez and kiddie-porn. I like to see it as a pleasant combination of both. Basically, the point of the 3.2 billion or so sites out there is so that people can waste a lot of time. And that's okay by me. By clicking on this neato spiral picture (which took all of my artistic ability to create), you will be transported to another page, much like this one. Once you get there you can click on whatever link seems to interest you. Or you can just click on another spiral, and hopefully be shot off to some random link.

Enter the Vortex, if you dare.

The links below the spiral are ones that I find interesting, or that I think might interest other people.  There are many nifty things that are not on that page, but those can usually be found on other people's pages.  The stuff you'll see here is at least moderately unique, and you'll certainly never find it all in one place again.

word of the week/month/year

Well, once upon a time we had a section on this page called the Word of the Week.  But that's kind of a misnomer, because it never worked out that way.  I think it was originally conceived as the Word of the Day, which really didn't last long.  Then it moved straight to being the Word of the Month.  Then we had the Word of the Season. At this point it might actually qualify as the Word of the Year:

"gallimaufry"

And Zach Evans figured it out.  (By finding "dictionary.com", which makes this little game pretty pointless.)  I don't really remember what gallimaufry means, but I think it had something to do with hash.  In any case, this section will of Happy Fun World will be officially removed during the page's next big overhaul.  Until then, view "The List" to see those truly great minds who played the game in its heyday, and won.

Oh, by the way, my "me.html" pages are kind of hard to navigate.  I'll fix that soon, but here's a table of contents to keep them more or less organized.  They all tend to ramble a bit, and none tackles its subject with overmuch sobriety, but the titles here should make at least some sense.

Well, that's all.  None of these little personal essays are one-hundred-percent polished, but they were fun enough to write that they should be at least mildly entertaining to read.  I'd put more time into them, but I really don't have that much free time.  That's really okay, though.  Homepages are a neat thing to have, but one shouldn't put too much hard work into them.  Especially personal homepages visited by few people.

Thank you for coming.  I hope you've enjoyed your stay.  Come back and visit me again, and get ready for the new Happy Fun World.

Special thanks to everyone who helped make this page possible, including myself, Benjamin Franklin, Mortimer T. Houyhnym, several friendly Mexicans, John Linnel, Matt Ogle, my parents, my dog, Untitled Pictures, Beverly Cheng, Scott McCloud, the Neo-Futurists, Coco the Electric Monkey Wizard, my poltergeist Martha, and all those folks at The Chain.
