A RESOLUTION OF THE MARQUETTE CITY COMMISSION

WHEREAS, hundreds of Marquette citizens are petitioning the City Commission to oppose pre-emptive military action against Iraq, and

WHEREAS, peaceful measures are still available and in process to resolve the issues between Iraq and the world community, and

WHEREAS, the City Commission strongly supports community members serving in the armed forces and for this reason feels deep concern about putting them unnecessarily at risk in Iraq before non-military options have been exhausted;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Marquette opposes pre-emptive U.S. military action outside the framework of the United Nations against Iraq, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Commission forward this resolution to President George W. Bush, U. S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, and U. S. Representative Bart Stupak.
